Formerly Armazem, Hooked on Colfax is located on what is considered by many to be the model block for Colfax revitalization. (Other business in the immediate area include Spirit Ways, ism gallery, the Goosetown Tavern, GoodFriends Restaurant, Atomic Cowboy, Yoga Source, Cafe Star, Mezcal, Hair Spray (now Babushka, I believe), Barb's Flower Market, and Tiger Kim's)

Hooked on Colfax has plenty of comfortable seating upstairs, with exposed brick walls decorated by local artists. There is also has a cozy community meeting space downstairs.
Serving Pablo's coffee and great homemade treats, Hooked is a nice fixture in this up and coming area on Colfax.
Perks:
- nice atmosphere,
- free WiFi,
- homemade treats,

I always liked Armazem, and I think Scott & Melissa are doing a great job with Hooked on Colfax! Keep it up!
Hooked on Colfax has a great feel and their coffee is just better than at other shops. I think they go out of their way to get top-of-the-line ingredients for everything.
They are completely renovating the basement to make it cozy, putting in couches and a fire place, and it's scheduled to be done soon :-)
I have been into hooked a few times and it's not bad, but was sorry to see Armazem go as I really liked the Brazilian coffeehouse theme they created, and liked the overall atmosphere... but maybe I'm just resistant to change. Hopefully the new owners do well there... it's a nice location and its always good to see an local shop succeed.

What they have plenty of at hooked is "alt" culture styling. What they don't have is decent service or baristas. Pablos coffee is usually quite good, but not without attention to preparation. Luke warm coffee and chai, and way too short on the latte shots. I tried a few hopeful times, but was repeatedly disappointed.
"Hooked on Colfax" - there's a reason the name doesn't say anything about coffee.
Thanks for voting everyone! :-)

I'm at Hooked every night around finals and the baristas are great...I've always liked my coffee. They even warm up the brownies and cover them with chocolate syrup and whipped cream, and it's quiet enough to study...
Films are goin strong: ArgusFest is showing films downstairs at 'Hooked' every Wednesday at 7pm. For more info visit www.argusfest.org
great atmosphere, pleasant staff. The coffee is AWESOME!
I frequent Hooked for the great shots, Kristin knows how to pull a perfect one.
Great hangout, no attitudes.
events and new photos at www.myspace.com/hookedoncolfax
Major attitude and lack of competency with the baristas I've had. (I guess Kristin wasn't there those three times.)
Will not return!
everyone is nice to me...
HOOKED IS GREAT
(TEST COMMENT)
I HEART HOOKED ON COLFAX!
never encountered any "attitude" there from staff. In fact, quite the opposite- I go in regularly with my bambina and everyone is so friendly- unlike some cafes where I get the stinkeye (from patrons & staff) like they're telepathing *"breeder... get ... out!"*
Of course, I wish they had some lovely affordable travel mugs with their name & logo, but that's the only suggestion i have. OH- and the coffee cake is to DIE for. Their specialty drinks named after other local businesses are the bomb. Try the Fabric Lab- mmm, sweetness.
Thanks for all the feedback - this site is the best comment box :-)

i love the new cups :P
HOC is a great coffee shop. When they first opened, I was a bit suprised by the play on words in their name. BUt they have really stepped up and created a great space. Friendly staff, and HOT coffee with good flavor. ONly problem I find with them is that they close at 10 PM, I'd be happier if they stayed open to midnite or later, but do understand.
Scott, the owner, was inexcusably rude to me.
I organize a book club that met monthly at Hooked. We held about 8 meetings there. When we were published in an article in the Westword, we made sure to get Hooked listed by name and address. We advertised our club, mentioning Hooked in a banner sidebar on highly-trafficked community blogs that I won't mention to avoid bringing them into this.
What I'm saying is we were good, dependable customers. Hooked had the contact info for my cohost and me.
Hooked decided to bump our group for their movie series. That's their prerogative. However, notification in advance was the least they should've done. We didn't get the courtesy of a phone call and were left high and dry.
If you want to organize a group, I cannot stress enough not to rely on Hooked's community meeting space because you cannot trust its brass to be dependable or courteous. Despite any protestations that may follow, actions speak louder.
I'm sorry to hear that. We work hard to provide a free community meeting space for groups of 10 people more - I just ask that everyone double check the schedule every week and leave a deposit to save the space. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to-contact me...I take care of the schedule (not Scottie).
Thanks! :-)

HOOKED-
First off, let me say that I really like HOC. The coffee is good, the staff friendy, and the space is comfortable. What I don't like is the creepy, smelly homeless guy that is ALWAYS there. He'll sit across from you and stare, and when you leave he'll ask you for money. Not cool.
My daughter is a student at East High down the street. She is an a group called SIPP. Student Interfaith peace project. We started hitting up all the businesses along Colfax for donations for a trip this summer to Palestine and Isreal. The group is 1/3 Muslim, 1/3 jewish and 21/3 Christain kids. Hooked came up with a beautiful basket filled with coffee beans and extras. It took time to make as opposed to the typical gift certificate and was a great contribution. Thanks, Love the place!!!
