Why hasn't anyone ever told me about this place? Apparently, this location has been a coffee house for around 7 years, but may have had a different name. As you might guess by the name, and can be seen by the photos, this is the location of an old filling station, complete with two bay garage doors coming into the coffee shop. Being the "Mile High BUZZ" blog, I obviously like the name, too. :-)
Buzz Fill'er Up Cafe serves Lion Coffee, which is 100% Kona coffee. All of the windows (including the garage doors) make for a nice and bright environmentment during the day. Bright walls, and
a blue ceiling complete with painted stars gives the place a nice feel, although the lack of much artwork or decor on the walls leaves something to be desired.
The service here is great, and there is a good sized patio outside. I really like the fact they took a location like this and converted it.
I almost forgot to mention... they have a drive through! As far as I know, this is one of the only 'non starbucks' drive-through coffee houses here in Denver (other than the many corner espresso joints).
And yes, they do have free WiFi

First of all the Lion's coffee is only 10% Kona, second the brewed and expresso drinks are not Lion's coffee. The chain smoking owner is not a very pleasant man who seems to always be barking at his small wife in the mornings. The restroom is unfortunately less clean than your average gas station garage, always out of paper and smelling of an old alleyway. The location is great and the potential is there for a cool neighborhood coffeehouse that isn't starbucks but the feel of the place is that of a poorly run coffee shack not fit for art of any sort whether in patrionage or experience. Go to Pablo's down the road and meet Frenchtoast, the bearded cool barista always having intellectual angst and welcoming in own standoffish kinda of way...
The fairies on the walk in price board are priceless art and worth a visit all by themselves.
Ok Andrew. Buzz Fill-er-up used to be owned by the Rock Island nightclub guy. When he owned it, there were always super cool kind of skater trash employees and it definitely had a better feel and better coffee. I don't feel the couple that bought it relate as well to what was the regular clientele. They had a great thing but didn't think too hard about how the sale would affect the regulars.
went there 3 times. GREAT pumpkin/choc chip bread, but the coffee (I had a capp) was burnt and undrinkable. Had a latte the first time...ugh, a drip coffee the second...nothing worth the trip. I completely agree with the posting above...the owner, an Indian/middle eastern man (?),was rude to his wife who was just asking what to charge and he obviously can't make a drink worth shit. Have no idea why this guy owns this place...it doesn't seem to be for the love of the java. All the coolness this place may have had seems gone. But the bread was very good when fresh.
I have been going to Buzz for well over a year and have had none of the experiences of the other reviewers. Good coffee (much better than at Ink at 10th&Lincoln where we used to go), nice bright surroundings, free wi-fi, excellent service, and a drive through to boot. It's a good neighborhood coffeehouse in a convenient location and the owners have been nothing but gracious and pleasant to me every time.
Haile and Yuko (owners) are awesome. Sometimes married people gripe at each other. Please support Buzz...it was a second home to me for a year when I was working on a screenplay and procrastinating.
3 months ago (November 2006) The Denver Post food critic Tucker Shaw visited Buzz Cafe an listed it as a "Great place I found while cruising around town". He wrote that they have "really good and really fresh coffee" among other things. I am bringing this to your attention because of what Anonymous 6:37 wrote. He slams the cafe by writing that they are always barking, always out of paper and chain smoking implies always smoking. My question to him is why are you ALWAYS going there? Then he praises another establishment. I am sure Mr. Shaw stopped in on them but deemed them not worthy to mention. It makes me wonder if type of forum is ideal for competitors to slander their competition. I have been visiting Buzz now for a couple of years and never had anything there but a great cup of coffee, terrific espresso and superb service.
I stop at the Buzz a couple times a week. The owners are extremely nice and pleasant, and the Ethiopian coffee is my favorite in town. The muffins are excellent too. I love the Buzz!
Just like Jan at Scooter Joe's, Heimlich and Puko are in it for the money every last cent. If you want crap then go buy, buy, bye!
Yeah what a shame to have to expect a coffee shop to make money and support its' owners. Find a better way to critque and a less mean spirited way, Chi.
Didn't love the coffee quality or the vibe. I understand that it's supposed to have a sorta urban feel, but to me the surroundings just felt disconnected and choppy. Nice to sit on the stools that face an opened-up garage, though.
Love the place, the coffee, the muffins, and the Liks ice cream, as does my 2 year old son, who's been there regularly since he was born. The owners are great, pleasent and go way out of their way to serve both regulars and first timers as welcome guests - which can be hard at 7am with a line of 6 cars waiting for coffee. As far a the comments about it not having a "cool barista" and being in it for the money, there's nothing worse that buying coffee and breakfast from someone workin' on their cool and there's noting wrong with making a living while making others happy. A coat of paint might spruce the place up, but that's not nearly reason enough to stay away from the pleasures at Buzz.
