Capuvino Coffee & WineBonnie Brae Neighborhood
728 S. University Blvd. Denver, Co
See it on the BUZZ Coffee Map
Located in the charming Bonnie Brae area (just East of Wash Park), Capuvino (formerly Capri Coffee) is one of only a few coffee and wine locations I have found in Denver. This is a great place to come to visit with friends, do some work on the free wireless internet, or just sit and relax by the fireplace.
THe coffee is from the "Highland Coffee Roaster".Perks: wine tastings, live music, art shows, free WiFi, wine & beer, Nice outdoor patio, plenty of interior seating.
*Note... these photos are from their website. Didn't have my camerphone today.

Great place to do work/meet, etc.., but man, some of the highest prices. Trippple 20oz iced latte was in the 4.50 range. No flavor!
Great atmosphere, love the combination of coffee and wine. Thought it was cheaper than you know who.

they now serve food that is "outside" the coffee spot box. try the zucchini/ricotta/lemon apps., terrific new menu, same homey feel, Kevin(owner) is full of charm.
Capuvino gets my vote, classy little place, in a classy little area of Denver.
When I visit a CoffeeHouse I like to read todays paper with my coffee. Capuvino always seems to have a paper around, thats important to me.
Now the food & Coffee here are great too!
Capuvino has no FunkFactor and thats ok sometimes too! I love the the Funky CoffeeHouses best, but somedays a guy just needs to wear a tie and those days, I come here!
There are several restaurants on this block, every one of them is great! Parking can be a bear at times. The Hunter-Man*
The owner of this coffee house is one of the most rude, offensive people that I have encountered in a retail location. I am NEVER going to have a meeting there again! He actually told one of our board members "never to come into his store again" merely because all he did was just sit there when everyone else was drinking and he was not.
I have talked to some of the students from DU and they report the same treatment from this guy......DON'T GO THERE FOR ANY MEETINGS OR TO MEET ANY ONE THAT YOU WANT TO IMPRESS........
There are too many coffee houses in the city that welcome your business, have far better prices, are friendly, and actually make you feel wanted.
This guy actually is trying really hard to fail by chasing away customers, and is most likely going to accomplishing his goal.
My husband and I love CapuVino. Great place to go to read, work online, play chess, etc.
While recently visiting Denver (from Boulder), I was on the look out for some good espresso. I read the reviews here (btw, this is a great site!) and thought this place was worth a try.
Unfortunately, Capuvino offers coffee drinks on par with Starbucks (seemingly ZERO flavor!). The espresso machines in use here look like something you would find in your house (oh wait, they have 2...). All I could think was, "Is this some kind of joke?". I have actually considered buying an espresso machine nicer than they use because my return on investment could be recouped in about one year.
The "barista" (not sure if this word is appropriate), had no form in their preparation, and even less pride in their work. Rosetta? Heart? Any design? Absolutely not! The latte was a solid color where the foam was stark white. I'm not even sure if they no what crema is?
If you are used to the crap that Starbucks churns out, perhaps this shop will suffice. However, if you have ever had a REAL espresso drink, you will wonder how this business stays afloat.
The only explanation is that there is very little competition in Denver, and the clientèle is mostly looking to find an alternative to Starbucks.
Atmosphere? What are you talking about? It felt like a Starbucks minus the junk accessories. Perhaps they fare quite well as a wine bar in the evenings, I couldn't tell ya.
Needless to say, I had to stop into my local Boulder shop when I returned. Here, they know we all have coffee makers at home, and we are coming in for an espresso drink that one can only get from a commercial grade machine.
The experience was mind-blowing!
Assuming that there are residents in Denver with discerning tastes, a willing entrepreneur would have an easy time establishing a profitable coffee house.
This place was all right, a little on the expensive side. It is really close to where I work, and I would go there for lunch more often if it didn't take them an hour to make a sandwich. I just can't understand why it takes that long!!
It is expensive, and moreover, the owner of the place is one of the rudest people that I've ever met. I wouldn't go back there if the coffee was free.
I'm surprised that so many people on here have had negative experiences with the owner, Kevin. I have talked to him a few times and he is always really nice. With that being said, I think Capuvino is a nice concept, with the wine and coffee, but their coffee is absolutely terrible. I have encountered Highland Coffee at a couple other places too, and I've thought it is horrible every time.
As of Sunday April 13, CapuVino is officially closed. I received a personal e-mail from the owner Kevin today. Here's an excerpt -
Due to the current downturn in our economy and the continued increase in product costs,CapuVino has closed...
The old Capuvino location is now Katherine's French Bakery. Excellent classic pastries but a little pricey. They didn't have wifi a few weeks ago but they knew they needed it. Nice spot to work.
CapuVino is no more... can you update? Now Katherine's...
