"Library Cafe", located inside the main branch of the Denver Public Library the east entrance. They serve ILLY coffee.

Edit 09/2007 From the owner:

I serve what is consider by many to be the best espresso coffee in the world, "Illy." I chose this coffee after years of drinking espresso and have a fine palette for tasting coffee. I have not found better coffee than Illy and I keep up my machine to serve the best tasting coffee.

The refrigerated case looks kinda empty. Whats up with that?

Love the crabby French guy that runs this shop. He's always on the phone upset with someone. But he really is VERY nice and makes great Illy's coffee.

AWW, Maurice is great. This is the Bonfils-Stanton Library cafe at the Denver Central public liberry, by the way. Way too close to where i work. Good stuff at reasonable prices- hopefully this is the vendor that will stick- this space has seen Baroness coffee (RIP) and then a Starbucks vendor come and go. Maurice is actually Peruvian by way of Israel- hence the funky accent. :)

Best Latte ever, doesn't taste burned like the others.
Nice cafe inside a library, wished we had one in our town.

At the Library Cafe, we strive to serve the best coffee and have found illy to be better than any other. We pay much more for illy, but serve only the best.

The pastries we serve are real pastries, from a French baker and a local baker.

Yeah, the refrigerated case holds sandwiches, which come in fresh every day. The picture shown here was taken early in the morning before the sandwiches were delivered.

We now also serve yummy gelato.

Our slogan is, "A good cup of coffee well served."

What do you mean that you "pay much more for illy? Much more than what?

Having had illy in Europe on numerous occasions, I've found that the taste of illy in this country is not very good in comparison. What's more, I've found that many of our local roasters do a much better job. Have you tried Kaladi?

I guess that with your location, it doesn't really matter. Most of your customers are probably people going to the library, or bums, druggies, pimps and hoes. I don't think that they would care what you serve, whether it be illy, folgers or nestle.

I have not tried your pastries, but I see that you emphasize that they are from a french baker and a local baker. Why? Why don't you get your pastries from europe? If you're going to say that you get them local because they are fresh, then why not your coffee too? Is it that you're afraid that your beans would be "burned?" Or is it burnt?

Where do you get your gelato from? Local? Imported?

Re. your slogan, what do you mean "well served?" Does it mean that you're nice when you serve it? I've been to your shop 3 times now when visiting the library. I would have to say that I was not impressed with the hospitality factor.

I think a better slogan would be: "An average cup of coffee served by some grumpy old French guy."

Peace!!!

I appreciate the Peace comment and your honest appraisal of the Library Cafe, though I know others have had better experiences at the cafe.

I do feel for my wonderful returning customers from the library, art museum, courthouse, and ING building especially who would not like to be labeled as "bums, druggies, pimps and hoes."

Let's have a free exchange, but without lewd comments.

In addition, other postings have indicated the "no burnt" taste of illy and the fact that I am not French.

Peace

Maurice
